Colonial Day

Every year the 5th grade has Colonial Day culminating the end of their social studies unit on Colonial America.  It is a fun filled day, where all of the kids dress up and spend the day cooking and eating food that was eaten at that time.
Making and playing games, crafts and at the end of the day they have a dance.
The teachers even ask that the parents and siblings come dressed appropriately if they are going to come and join the festivities.  Ruby and I did try to dress the part but there was no way I was going to fight the boys.  I had mentioned dressing up to them and they quickly said, "I'm batman!"  "NO, I'm going to be batman"!  No dressing up for them.  Sadie on the other hand looked simply beautiful.
The 5th graders had a big project to do for the unit and she chose to make a dress, her Grandma Lisa helped. Or she helped her Grandma Lisa.  It was perfect though.  She had the dress for the project and for Colonial Day.  She had so many compliments all day long.  This is by far the highlight of the year for most of the kids.  But for some the highlight will come after school ends and  a group of kids and teachers and parents are going to Williamsburg, Va. to study hands on.  Sadie gets to go and Mimi is going to go with her.
